Nataly Aponte
Nataly lives and breathes fashion and style. She was born and raised in New York and grew up accompanying her mother from department store to department store. She knew the aisles like the back of her hand. Nataly's mother passed down the art of dressing, not just putting on clothes in the morning, but taking the time create an outfit.
Before vintage or consignment shops existed, Nataly and her mom would hunt for unique pieces in various shops in the Bronx, looking for something spectacular. In addition to her fashionable mom, she had five aunts, each with her own style, one aunt lived in Manhattan and dressed the part, another worked at Charles Jordan. Holidays at Grandma's were always like a mini fashion show; she loved seeing what outfit each woman put together, style clearly ran in the family.
In high school Nataly was lucky to have an babysitting job, where the child was already asleep when she arrived. She passed the time reading fashion magazines and was always so impressed by the fashion and layouts. Babysitting allowed her extra funds, which she would spend at thrift shops when it was taboo, not trendy. She was in love with fashion and had a deep affection for vintage, she didn’t care where she needed to go to find it.
Nataly went on to art school with a scholarship from Parsons where she studied fine art and Jewlery design. She’d been designing Jewlery since she was a child, and after all jewelry is the arm of fashion. Nataly’s aunt who worked at Charles Jordan gave her a box of leather swatches which traveled with her to and from school, always innovative, she used to leather swatches to create earrings.
Once Nataly graduated she started her two decade career in visual merchandising, she would dress windows and displays and became a Design Director for luxury good brands including Henri Bendel, Tiffany & Co. and DeBeers. Because she worked on merchandising in all departments it left the door open to pursue her love of home decor, she loved doing holiday windows on 5th avenue, but also loved merchandising the home department.
As her career in New York continued, she also pursued jewelry design, earning her Accredited Jewelry Professional™ certification at GIA. While simultaneously working in both fields she’d use her lunch breaks for errands, speed walking for 10 blocks to make her rounds to the diamond district, the setter and to check out The Findings House.
As her love of fashion only deepened, she started a side business of selling fashion on eBay. She’d photograph items at night, write the item descriptions on the subway and ship purchases off at Rockefeller center on her lunch. Nataly has since moved to LA where she continued collecting vintage and began selling at in person vintage shows. While pursuing her career in the vintage space, her affinity for jewelry design is a constant. She designed her iconic Matchstick Collection in 2019 and has since released additional collections and creates custom pieces.
When not designing jewelry, Nataly is curating vintage fashion and home decor. She currently resides in Long Beach, CA with her darling dog Zaza.
